Career Development
At ConocoPhillips there’s always potential for personal and professional growth. Learning and Development is an on-going process and an integral factor to our success.
There are plenty of opportunities that enrich your talent and skill at every step of your career.
Our mission is a rather direct: maximise performance by investing in people.
By providing programs that enrich your talents and skills at every step of your career, we strengthen not only your professional value, but the business value and plan of ConocoPhillips. That said, we believe employee development is a three-way partnership in which all parties are accountable. They include:
• Business leaders, accountable for developing their people
• Individuals, for developing and converting what they learn into business results
• Global Learning and Development, for development strategy and learning forums.
We value and encourage learning to take place from a variety of different sources. Our framework to learning seeks to combine all aspects of development whether acquired through formal training, job assignments or through reflection and feedback.
Talent Management Teams
At ConocoPhillips, we have more than 20 different functional-based Talent Management Teams (TMTs) that help identify the company’s future business needs, assess current skill gaps and recommend actions to fill those gaps. These teams optimize the development of people with technical or highly specialized skills so that they can be shared globally or regionally by the company in order to successfully implement its strategy. TMTs also help identify critical skill sets to ensure the right ones are available when needed by the business.
From College to Career
All graduate hires will be invited to participate in a week - long program specifically designed to help you learn about the industry, our company and professional development topics that have shown to be beneficial to employees who’ve just come onboard, helping you make the transition from college to career.
Graduate Schemes
Exploration and Production - The GRAD Scheme
Geoscience and Engineering graduates join the GRAD (Global Recruiting and Development) program that provides a flexible development framework to enhance and accelerate your career with us.
During the program you spend the first one or two years on rotational assignments and have the opportunity to be involved in challenging projects with the North Sea Operations Group.
Refining - Voyager
The Voyager programme starts on day one and runs for around six weeks. It will introduce you to the Refinery and its various departments and will provide you with the essential information to get you started. It runs for around four hours on most days so that you can continue to settle into your new role.
Student Placement Schemes
We are always proactive with seeking out ways to extend our developmental opportunities. We have active programs to support student development and growth. We have established relationships with selected universities across the UK from which we recruit students for placement opportunities in a diverse range of functions including Finance, HR, Public Relations and Engineering. These range from six weeks to one year assignments. These real work placements contribute to the creation of a diverse workforce, as well as the success of the company.
